Terms & Conditions

This website is operated by Vita Brevis Press, LLC. These terms and conditions apply while engaging in any services or information available on the website. This page contains the most up-to-date version of the terms and conditions, and it is subject to change.

Vita Brevis Press circulates poetry in an online magazine and print/digital anthologies. The terms and conditions on this page apply to all submissions.

We reserve the right to refuse a service (i.e. publication) to anyone at any time. If a poem is accepted, its author is responsible for ensuring that it is not plagiarized and that they have the proper permissions from any previous publications to submit it. We may re-publish a poem/article at our discretion if we choose it for an Editor’s Choice Award.

All published poems and bios will appear exactly as they appeared in the submission unless otherwise noted. Minor grammatical mistakes will be corrected automatically, and some complex formatting that cannot be reproduced on the website may undergo a small change. If there is any confusion about how grammar or structure changes might alter the meaning of the poem, the poet will be contacted.

Unlike the Vita Brevis online poetry magazine, our print/digital anthologies are sold by the issue. We currently use Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publish to create, list, and sell these issues.

Any poet who is under the age of 18 must make their minor status known to an editor and present a signature from his or her guardian consenting to the publication of their work.

Once a poem is accepted by the editor, the poet grants, assigns, and licenses Vita Brevis a non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual, worldwide license and right to use, display, reproduce, distribute, and publish the accepted poetry on the internet and on or in any medium (i.e. print and digital). After publication the rights revert back to the poet.

At this time Vita Brevis relies entirely on donations, so we cannot pay poets for their work. This applies to the print/digital anthologies, the poetry magazine, and any future projects.

By contributing to the anthologies or magazine, the submitter agrees to let us use their name, accepted poetry, and bio within the anthology and on resources to promote or describe the anthology.

Vita Brevis gives you complete ownership of your work. We are entitled to first serial and reprint rights. That is, we are allowed to be the first publisher of your work before the rights revert back to you, and we are then allowed to republish your work if it is chosen for an award or an anthology. These publication rights extend to all formats (digital and print) and locations, and once your poem is accepted for an anthology you agree that it can be featured in our digital and print issues, which are sold to Vita Brevis readers..
