Poetry Submissions

WHAT CAN I SEND IN?

Vita Brevis publishes poetry–especially from unpublished or emerging poets. I charge no reading fees, accept unsolicited pieces, and keep poetry submissions open year-round. (I no longer accept previously published poems.)

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR?

I tend to favor traditional, structured poems over experimental or post-modern ones. But that’s just the Vita Brevis style, not the requirement.

Here’s an example of a structured poem: Family Portrait – Ronald E. Shields
Here’s a great less traditional one: Hommarus americanus – Shanna Maybright

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY POETRY SUBMISSIONS ARE ACCEPTED?

I respond to every single poem, no matter what, within two weeks. If you never hear back from me, I may be in serious danger. Regardless, just shoot me a reminder and I’ll get back to you promptly!

ANY TIPS FOR GETTING PUBLISHED?

You bet. Here’s an article I wrote on publishing your poems. And here’s another on how to find poetry magazines that are right for you.
