Poetry Submission

WHAT CAN I SEND IN?

Vita Brevis publishes poetry–especially from unpublished or emerging poets. We charge no reading fees, accept unsolicited pieces, and are open for submission year-round. We also accept previously published poems.

ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR?

We tend to favor traditional, structured pieces over experimental, post-modern ones. But that’s just our style, not our requirement.

Here’s an example of what we like: Family Portrait – Ronald E. Shields
A less traditional piece: Hommarus americanus – Shanna Maybright

HOW DO I KNOW IF MY POEM IS ACCEPTED?

RECENTLY UPDATED: [For all poems submitted after 8/21/2018] We’ll give you a response within two weeks (typically faster).

ANY TIPS FOR GETTING PUBLISHED?

You bet. Here’s an article by our editor on just that: Navigating the World of Poetry Publication.
And here’s another: Publishing Poetry is like Arranging a marriage — Make it a Happy One
