WHAT CAN I SEND IN?
Vita Brevis publishes poetry–especially from unpublished or emerging poets. I charge no reading fees, accept unsolicited pieces, and keep poetry submissions open year-round. (I no longer accept previously published poems.)
ARE YOU LOOKING FOR ANYTHING IN PARTICULAR?
I tend to favor short structured poems over long experimental or post-modern ones. But that’s just the Vita Brevis style, not the requirement.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY POETRY SUBMISSIONS ARE ACCEPTED?
I respond to every single submission, whether it’s accepted or not. As a rule-of-thumb, if I don’t get back to you after two weeks, let me know. I may have missed your submission, or the submission pool was especially busy.
ANY TIPS FOR GETTING PUBLISHED?
You bet. Here’s an article I wrote on publishing your poems. And here’s another on how to find poetry magazines that are right for you.
HOW DO I SUBMIT MY WORK?
Read our: Terms and Conditions
Compose an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Make the subject line: General Submission
Include: (1) an author/pen name, (2) A short bio (written in third person), around 30 to 50 words, (3) [optional] a link to your personal website, blog, or publication so readers can find more of your work, (4) up to five poems in a single PDF attachment (sometimes we accept more than one).
