Autumn Notes – A Poem by Ann Neilson

The dank air permeated of nostalgic notes of
gold speckled skies and withered grass blades, of
crisped leaves soaring downward
to their cyclical demise—
nay, rebirth.
The musk of gourds and unhusked corn,
imbued with luscious apples and spiced nutmeg,
complemented the dry earth.
As evening descended o’er
in its musty yellow haze,
the multifarious autumnal symphony ceasing,
multifoliate growth bid one final adieu
to the dying of the year—
and thus nature steadily,
unabashedly,
unreservedly
withdrew.
