life lines – Angie Contini

Three Friends – Adolphe Joseph Thomas Monticelli

they were waiting with you
there were no lines on your face
you held yourself well
as the air fell out of you

again

they were waiting with you
they traced the lines on your face
you asked three times
for water
and the radio on
and the toilet

again

they were waiting with you
they were the lines on your face
you coughed and
shuffled your tiny bedbound body
through the love that
swam in the room

again
