EDITOR’S CHOICE: Gethsemane – Poetry by Allyson Wierenga

Arkhip Kuindzhi – Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane

I would have held
your hands
in prayer
told you
I, too, don’t have the answers
you would say

it’s ok
it’s human to be scared
walking this evening forest
I know what it is
to feel darkness like an emotion
lit by undying suns

but take not this cup
from me
a love like yours
I can bear it
