A Solitary Fly – Poem Jason O’Toole

Vasily Polenov – Waterfall
Many turned back
after reaching the overlook
mistaking it for main
           the falls.

This, according
to hiker descending
the trail.

He seemed content,

Awaiting me
at the top,
a lone housefly.

I left her alone.
She let me be.
Loud and strong,
water hurtled above
and below.
