A Solitary Fly – Poem Jason O’Toole

Vasily Polenov – Waterfall
Many turned back
after reaching the overlook
mistaking it for main
attraction,
           the falls.

This, according
to hiker descending
the trail.

He seemed content,
renewed.

Awaiting me
at the top,
a lone housefly.

I left her alone.
She let me be.
Loud and strong,
water hurtled above
and below.
