Did you know that
when the Monarch prepares
to lay its eggs,
it carefully identifies
the milkweed leaf
which will fuel the larvae?
The mother stopped by
visions of the anticipated cycle –
first the egg shell is ingested then
its birthplace is turned to sustenance,
until it spins silk into chrysalis,
it travels
from translucency to transparency
and then stretches into maturity.
This magnificent formation,
begins with
choosing a suitable leaf.
