Nestled in a broad field’s tall grass
above the headlands.
No fire. A sleeping bag. Noone at night
walked that way by the sea; no one
would find me.
I had dared myself to do it.
Milky Way brilliant and the surf’s roll lulling me.
No danger.
Up at dawn. Glorious. A challenge met,
however small. A shy man’s worth
recast; rejuvenated.
