Poetry by Carson Pytell
I’m haunted by sepia tinted eyes,
Their antique gazes, alien clothes.
Who is this and who is that?
Well, nobody really knows.
Friends, family, neighbors,
At parties or humbler affairs.
Posing politely and smiling
At home or a church’s stairs.
They’re dead and gone like wind,
So fast and far removed.
To know any at all it does not,
Me, rightly behoove.
Yet they come to me in dreams,
And speak while in repose:
“Someday you’ll be nothing more than
A pair of eyes and confusing clothes.”
