Poetry by Stefano Bortolussi
How often the prodigy of nature beats
its wings, coming every morning
to this fountain of recreated stones
brushed by a gentle musk, blissfully
mistaking them for the real thing
under the arbor’s tentative shade:
only the most darting, choicest thoughts
whirr and hum in front of the hazy ray
of a look directed, for a change, toward its otherness.
It is just one of the morning’s many gifts
on the western edge of your journey,
the wished-for surprise becoming reality
when your hesitant steps are stopped
by the calm but resolute tide,
by the sight of the foaming sea.

Wonderful. I especially like these lines,
“only the most darting, choicest thoughts
whirr and hum in front of the hazy ray
of a look directed, for a change, toward its otherness.”
Thank you for sharing this one Brian.
