Blind Justice – A Poem by Megha Sood

The Course of Empire: Desolation – Thomas Cole

Poetry by Megha Sood

There is a moment before the storm
when the clouds above are gathering courage
before just the loud thunderclap
which makes the children
rush to their mother’s embrace
the sky is ripping apart his heart
and will let you know
the pain and the angst
He has been keeping
locked and tight in his chest.
My granny knees are a witness to them
She knows they are coming. It’s a reckoning,
She says,
You will understand.
She can feel in her body,
in her sweaty palms
the mute monster about to be born.
Those gushes and gales will swallow
the timid and the weak huts
those merciless waves
have no grace.
Come inside, she says
let’s be safe and sound
she tries to save one soul
when the whole town is going down.
that raging clouds are a symbol of blind justice
she says,
leaves no king
or pauper
alone.

  1. Nice commentary, nice perspective and lovely read. Makes the rain fall on the just and the unjust…same as the shining sun – God and his justice system. Powerful poem
