The Vanity Garden – A Poem by Dan A. Cardoza

Leannaine presented herself in front of it, ethereal,
nearly floating cautiously admiring her temporal

beauty, the always present self-image, contemplating
inconsequential flaws she imagines too conspicuous.

Unaware, negligent perhaps, the day will arrive
when the mirror captures her likeness for the last

time. It’s inevitable & more than likely will be
uneventful. Vanity, ever patient & accommodating

will then recant; begin to whither in the glass,
burrowing its icy roots deep into the reflective

garden. Lie latent for spring to bloom its shiny
thorns.
