Something other than sleep
more like jumping into water of coolness.
Not dreamland, but renewal of return,
more like the thrill of meeting someone new,
in the skin of an old friend.
Extension of bones to a full tank of calm.
A refrain from shallowness and gasping.
Diversion from daily tunnels of thought.
The upside-down of frenetic.
When was the last time your bare feet felt
the smooth tile of the lobby?
The feel of breath leaving your body
an elevator going down
to revisit the ground floor.
An entrance to rest.

I like “rest” described as “The upside-down of frenetic.”
Some great lines in this poem. I especially liked “more like the thrill of meeting someone new in the skin of an old friend”; very evocative.
wonderful –I can feel those tiles….
Ali is an impressive wordsmith!
Thank you for your reflections. I am honored by your words.
I can feel the beauty of rest and peace.
